You’ve made the decision that it’s time to upgrade the blinds in your home. The next step in the process is purchasing your blinds and you may be wondering whether to order online or in-store. Ordering blinds online is generally much easier and it will save you time and money as you don’t have to travel to a showroom. All you have to do is determine your budget, take the correct measurements, choose the customisable options you want, and place the order.

Why Size Matters!

Measuring your blinds is absolutely crucial to getting a window covering solution that operates to the highest level. It doesn’t need to be difficult or complicated, but you should always carry out basic measurements to avoid mistakes that may add to cost or delay installation.

Some fundamental tips to remember include: Always use a metal measuring tape to get accurate results, check your measurements more than once to avoid miscalculations, and take into account any obstructions such as window handles, picture rails or tiles. It’s also important to note that the blind width includes brackets, motor head and pin end, and the width of your fabric will be roughly 35mm less than this.

Sticking To The Budget

Just like any home renovation project, purchasing smart blinds should fit comfortably in your budget. It’s important to determine a clear idea before purchasing how much you want to spend on your window blinds to avoid overspending.

The material, make and size of your blinds will determine how much they cost. Blackout blinds for example will cost more than an equivalently sized dimout blind. On all Smart Blind products, you will see a price calculator where you can simply input your width and drop. The calculator will then work out how much your blinds are likely to cost, allowing you to determine whether they fit within your budget.

Installing The Blinds

Once you’ve purchased your blinds, they will arrive within a few weeks. You then have the option of hiring someone to install them or carrying out the installation yourself. It’s essential that however you choose to fit your blinds they should be installed correctly to ensure that they are safe and fully operational. Fitting instructions can be found on our site that will guide you on the right methods for blind installation. Here you will find crucial information on how to fit blinds with and without a cassette fascia.

Controlling The Smart Blinds

Your blinds will come operated by remote control as standard. Smart Blinds are controlled by incorporating a smart home device into home, such as the TaHome Switch Home Hub. This device acts as the control panel for all the smart devices in your home and will allow you to operate your blinds with ease. Be sure to add the Tahoma Switch hub to your basket, you only need 1 hub per household.

Your TaHoma Switch then must be paired with a compatible smart device such as an Amazon Alexa or a Google Home. This will enable you to use voice commands to control your blinds and allows you to set up automations. Both of these control options will greatly take the stress out of operating your blinds and is the key step in making for convenient and comfortable living. You are free to purchase as many smart devices as you want and it makes sense to have one in every room to ensure maximum connectivity in your home, all linked together with the TaHoma Switch and your new Smart Blinds.

Customising your Blinds

Once you have selected a blind from our online store, it’s time to begin thinking about customisable options. There are many ways to customise your smart blinds and your price will be determined by the options you choose.
